One Month Away From Ramadan (The Month of Fasting)

Announcement Title:

One Month Away From Ramadan (The Month of Fasting)

Announcement Details:

In this time every year I find myself full of excitement about the approaching month of Ramadan, the month of fasting.  Due to the obvious need to be closer to God, to be able to maintain the spiritual desire, to meet the need to have tranquility within oneself and the ability to remove ones sins.

Fasting is important because of a variety of reasons.  When we experience hunger during the day, it helps us to remember those that are suffering from hunger due to a completely different set of circumstances.  Simply put, we can eat toward the end of the day where so many of them can not because of their lack of food.  There for, fasting helps us to be grateful for what we have and generous in giving to those in need.  Fasting helps us to experience a closeness to God and helps us to reflect on His presence in our daily lives.

While we are making prayer each night during the month of Ramadan asking Him to accept our supplications toward our families and relatives I believe we have to remember all human beings as well in our prayer.  Especially since in our religion we believe that we worship the God of Abraham and all of his descendants.  Let us remember this year to make supplication for all to live peacefully with one another.  Let us pray for the children to enjoy the life ahead of them.  Let us pray for our elders to cherish the memories that they have.  Let us pray for all wars to end and the killing to stop.  Let us pray for our youth to find their way with guidance from God.

Since we believe that the Holy Quran was revealed in the month of Ramadan, let us all have the intention to recite the book with the hope of properly understanding the message of God.  By being familiar with the history behind each verse and being informed of the context of each sentence and learning the scholarly way in dealing with the Holy Quran then we will be able to understand what God expects from us.

I pray that God will help us to be busy with righteousness all of our lives, put lightness in our hearts, knowledge in our minds and guide us to be what He desires for us to be.

May God keep our nation safe and watch over our city, state and country.
